Carroll Clark Phillips was born October 19, 1924 on the family farm in Pleasantville, Iowa the son of Harrison Hodgson Phillips and Callie Elizabeth (Clark) Phillips.
Carroll graduated from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1942, and then enrolled at Iowa State University. He left college to join the United States Army. Carroll served his country during the WWII era as a training instructor and military policeman. Following his discharge he returned to ISU. Carroll soon met his future wife, Mavis “Mickey” Bies at a dance at the Tromar, in Des Moines. The couple married in 1953 and settled on the Phillips family farm southeast of Pleasantville.
Carroll was a dedicated member of the Pleasantville Christian Church, having served on the board and as a deacon. As a young man, he was involved in 4-H, showing shorthorn and Angus cattle. He was also a natural athlete, especially when it came to rushing and punting the football, playing basketball or pitching a baseball. He enjoyed watching sports, especially college football and college basketball. He was an avid ISU fan and has been a season football ticket holder since 1975. Carroll was the consummate farmer, he loved the land and was a good steward. Carroll always put his family first, and he cherished the time they spent together.
Carroll passed away Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 93 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mavis “Mickey” Phillips and twin sister, Berniel Phillips Lyon.
Those left to honor Carroll’s memory include his children: Greg (Melissa) of Kiester, MN, Susan of Agoura Hills, California and Brian of West Des Moines; 5 grandchildren: Cole (Ashley) Phillips and Brynn (Matt) Daniels and their son, Rownan all of Forest City; Stephanie (Travis) Chapa and their children, Levi and Callie of Los Angeles, California, Melissa (Erik) Bordwell of Denver, Colorado and Brett Yurash of Santa Clara, California and many other family members and friends.



A Memorial Service for Carroll Phillips, age 93 of Pleasantville, will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Pleasantville Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 108. Memorials may be made to the Pleasantville Senior Center, the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 108 or the Pleasantville Christian Church.
