Carolyn Rae Hegwood

Carolyn Rae “Sis” (Billings) Hegwood was born September 30, 1950 in Marion County, Iowa the daughter of Lester and Clara (Six) Billings.
She was raised in Pershing and attended Attica Schools. On July 3, 1971 Carolyn was united in marriage to Gene Hegwood in Hermitage, Missouri. Carolyn had worked for the overall factories in Knoxville and Pella and at the Pershing Post Office prior to becoming a CNA and working at West Ridge Nursing in Knoxville. Working with the elderly was Carolyn’s true calling, she thoroughly enjoyed helping the residents with all their needs.
In her spare time, Carolyn enjoyed crocheting, fishing and mushrooming. Her greatest joy was found spending time with her family and friends and helping others. She truly would do anything for anyone in need.
Carolyn passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 at her home, in Pershing, at the age of 64 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Leland and Donovan Billings and Charlie Smith.
Those left to cherish Carolyn’s memory include her husband, Gene of Pershing; daughter, Melissa Syhlman (Josh); son, Gene, Jr (Rebecca); step-daughter, Teresa Cowman (Leo Dean) of Knoxville; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren (with one on the way); brother, Tom Six of Hendersonville, Tennessee; sister, Leslie Dennison of Lovilia and many other family members and friends.
A Funeral service for Carolyn “Sis” Hegwood, age 64 of Pershing, will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the Harvey Assembly of God Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Zion Cemetery in Pershing. Visitation will begin after 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.
