Bonnie Lee Larsen was born July 5, 1921 in Lucerne, Missouri the daughter of Earl and Faye
(Ellis) Wells.
She was raised in Missouri and during her high school years the family moved to Indianola, Iowa. Bonnie graduated from Indianola High School in 1939. She then attended Northeast Missouri State, in Kirksville, for preparatory work in nurse’s training. She then completed two years training at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from Kansas City General Hospital as a Registered Nurse in September of 1945. Bonnie went to work for the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville. On September 8, 1946 Bonnie was united in marriage to Merle James Larsen. The couple lived in various locations around the U.S., as Merle made his career in the Marine Corps. Following Merle’s retirement in 1963, the family moved to Pleasantville, Iowa. Bonnie went back to the V.A. in Knoxville as a nurse and retired as the Director of Nursing at Pleasant Care, in Pleasantville.
Bonnie received Christ as her savior at the age of 28 and dedicated her life to God’s work. She
was very involved in missionary work and Bible studies throughout her life. She was also a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her spare time, Bonnie enjoyed knitting, crocheting and other hand work.
Bonnie passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the home of her daughters, Naomi &
Jennifer Larsen, at their home in Indianola, at the age of 95 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merle, grandson, James
Larsen and two sisters: Elizabeth Butterfield and Jackie Powers.
Those left to cherish Bonnie’s memory include her children: Bryan Larsen of Mechanicsville, VA, James Larsen of Fulton, IL, John Larsen of Kellerton, IA, Rosemary Krichau of Pleasantville, Naomi Larsen and Jennifer Larsen both of Indianola, Mona Abrahamson of Ankeny, Martha Robinson of Runnells, Karen Evans of Des Moines and Justine Shane of Cairo, Il; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.


A funeral service for Bonnie Larsen, age 95 of Pleasantville, will be held on Wednesday, March
29, 2017 at the Mason Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Pleasantville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mason Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to C.M.M.L. (Christian Missions in Many Lands).
