Bonnie Elaine Adkins was born December 1, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Dean and Betty (Brobst) Hodgson.
She was raised on her family’s farm near Pleasantville and graduated from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1969. Following high school, Bonnie attended Des Moines Area Community College. In 1972, she was united in marriage to Steve Porter. To this union two daughters, Amanda and Melodie were born. Bonnie worked for Knoxville Hospital and the Knoxville V.A. Hospital in admissions. She later worked as a phlebotomist. On November 21, 1987 Bonnie was united in marriage to Richard Adkins. They shared the same ornery sense of humor and remained devoted to each other.
Bonnie believed being a mother was her most important role in life. She enjoyed volunteering when the girls were in 4-H. Bonnie always had holiday gatherings for the family and invited other people so they wouldn’t be alone. She also loved pets and the strays that Melodie brought home. Bonnie was loved by many, because she made people feel welcomed and loved.
Bonnie passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Altoona Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 68 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Richard.
Those left to cherish Bonnie’s memory include her daughters: Amanda (Josh) Greubel of Dewitt, Iowa and Melodie (Chris) Smith of Bondurant; four grandchildren, Benen and Nya Greubel and Marjorie and Ricky Smith; brother, Bill Hodgson of Tennessee and many friends and loved ones.



A Funeral Service for Bonnie Adkins, age 68 of Knoxville, will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Forever Home Dog Rescue.
