Bonita Louise (Spear) Vaske was born June 16, 1941 in Fenton, Iowa, the daughter of William (Bill) and Alice Spear. She was raised in Wallingford, Iowa, graduating from Graettinger High School in 1959. Following high school she started working at Snap-On Tools where she met William (Bill) Vaske.


On February 6, 1965 Bonnie was united in marriage to Bill Vaske at St Cecelia's Catholic Church in Algona, Iowa. The couple lived in Algona, Burt, St Louis MO, and Lone Rock before moving to Knoxville, Iowa in 1977. Bonnie worked for Iowa State Savings Bank until her retirement in 2008.


Bonnie was a magician at the sewing machine; she could create anything she set her mind to. She spent a great deal of time creating beautiful quilts after she retired. She also enjoyed playing cards and attending grandchildren's events. She and Bill loved polka dancing and touring in her 1915 Buick.


Bonnie was a devout and active member of St Anthony Catholic Church in Knoxville. She was a member of the Knoxville Piecemakers Quilt Guild and really enjoyed the meetings and creating beautiful quilts with her sister Becky and friends from the guild.


Bonnie passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her family, at the age of 83 years.


In addition to her husband, William (Bill) Vaske, Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents William and Alice Spear, in-laws Marvin and Agnes Vaske, brother-in-law Donald Vaske, sister-in-law Mary Jo Tigges, son-in-law David Rees, and nephew Alan Tigges.


Those left to cherish Bonnie's memory include her children; Michelle (Dirk) Lensing, Theresa (Tim) Pinkerton, Brenda (Keith) Davis, Donald (Mary) Vaske, Sheila (Rick) Boney, Michael (Amber) Vaske, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, siblings; Rebecca (Chuck) Peters, Thomas (Michael) Spear, Mary (Jerome) Luine, Lila (James) Harnan, Joseph Spear, Catherine (Davey) Henze, Rose (Jeff) Croghan, Patrick (Callie) Spear, Matthew (Joanna) Spear, and many other family members and friends.



In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to: Mission Cancer Foundation or Every Step Hospice.
