Billie James Hunt was born October 22, 1945 in Pleasantville, Iowa the son of William Jennings Hunt and Mary Armenta (McCoy) Hunt.
He was raised in Melcher-Dallas and at the age of 17 Billie enlisted in the United States Army. He served three years, including tour in Vietnam before his honorable discharge. Billie returned home after the service and worked at the V.A. Hospital and later on the Red Rock Dam construction. Billie started work at Pella Corp. on February 12, 1968. On February 15, 1969 he was united in marriage to Sheryl VandeKamp in Knoxville. The couple have always made Knoxville their home. After 35 years of service, Billie retired from Pella Corp. in 2003.
In his spare time, Billie enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He was also proud of his new Jeep he had recently purchased. Billie’s great joy was his family and he especially loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Billie passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016 at his home at the age of 70 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Darlene.
Those left to cherish Billie’s memory include his wife, Sheryl; daughter, Jayme (Jeff) McLaren of Knoxville; 3 grandsons: Jeremy, Jacob and Jordan Angove; 2 great-grandchildren: Temperance and Carsten; siblings: Ted Hunt of Jefferson City, MO and Thelma (Bill) Roberts of Bettendorf and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Billie Hunt, age 70 of Knoxville, will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial, with military honors, will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to H.C.I. Care Services - Knoxville Office or to the Knoxville Fire & Rescue Association.
