Beverly Gale Steger was born at home, in Delaware County, Iowa, November 12, 1926, the daughter of Charles Ray and Cecile (Rowell) Hall.
She graduated from Lamont Consolidated Schools in May of 1944. Beverly taught at rural schools in Buchanan County for 3 years, and 1 year in the Rowley School System. On June 1, 1947 Beverly was united in marriage to Everett E. Cook at the Lamont Methodist Church. To this union two sons, Steven Ray and John Leslie were born. Everett passed away December 13, 1951 on his 28th birthday. On January 30, 1954 Beverly was united in marriage to Leon Francis Steger and to this union Liane Therese and Robert Lee were born. In 1954 the family moved to Knoxville and Beverly and Leon managed the Park Lane Café for 7 years. Beverly then taught elementary at St. Anthony Catholic School until its closing in 1970. She later worked as the School Food Director at Twin Cedars Community Schools until retiring in 1988. Following retirement, Beverly and Leon moved from their farm near Pershing into Knoxville. Beverly spent her retirement years enjoying many friends, church and social activities, sewing and her family, especially her grandchildren.
Beverly passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Comfort House in Pella at the age of 89 years.
Her parents, siblings and two husbands preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish Beverly’s memory include her children: Steven (Sherry) Steger of Pleasantville, John (Tina) Steger of Metamora, Michigan; Liane (Bob) Sytsma of Leighton and Robert Steger of West Branch, Iowa; grandchildren: Stacey (Kevin) Weirda of Grand Haven, Michigan, Jeffery Steger of Grand Haven, Michigan, Shelly (Tristan) Kraft of West Bloomington, Michigan, Jennifer (Andrew) Ignash of Orlando, Florida, Jim (Lindsay) Steger of West Des Moines, Kevin (Margaret) Sytsma of Kansas City, Missouri and Kristin (Tim) Rourk of West Des Moines; 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Services for Beverly Steger, age 89, of Knoxville will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Pella or to the Lamont, Iowa Methodist Church.
