Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Thursday at the Mason Funeral Home, in Pleasantville, where a Wake Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Mercy Hospice of Des Moines.
Beverly was born February 3, 1928 in Warren County, the fifth child of Eddie C. and Lucy Ella (Meeker) Westerly. She graduated from Liberty Center High School. She married Randall V. Smith at the Sacred Heart Church in Melcher, Iowa on June 21, 1945. To this union were born six boys. Vincent died a few days after birth. Randall and Beverly farmed a few years in the Melcher area before moving to a farm south of Pleasantville where they lived and farmed until their retirement in 1984. They loved to travel, play golf, and were active in the community.

She loved her grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. A voracious reader, she spent her free time reading at least four books simultaneously. She particularly enjoyed English History and followed the antics of the Royal Family. She loved a good conversation and the coffee pot was always ready to greet visitors, family, and friends. She was an avid golfer and continued following golf tournaments on television after she was no longer able to play. An important part of her day was joining the morning coffee group to learn the latest news and to enjoy good conversation.

She was predeceased by her parents, her six siblings, her husband, Randall, and two of her sons, Vincent and Kevin. She is survived by four sons: David (Mary Jo) of Yuma, Arizona; Tracy (Linda) of Middletown, Rhode Island, Keith (Anne) of Marion, Iowa; and Craig (Cindy) of Westminster, Colorado; her grandchildren: Jacob (Melina) Smith of New York City, Phillip Smith of Los Angeles, Amanda (Jeff) Hexel of Yuma, Arizona, Stephanie Smith of New York City, Anna Smith of Newport, Rhode Island, and Matthew Smith of Iowa City, Iowa; and her great-grandchildren: Sophia and Henry Smith and Beverly Hexel.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice and Pleasant Care for their excellent care and comfort during her final days.
