Betty Claire Long was born October 15, 1942 in Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of Charles Howard and Josephine (Meusberger) Wilson.
Betty graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1960. On April 14, 1962 she was united in marriage to James Long. To this union two children, Kevin and Robin were born. The couple have always made their home in Knoxville. Betty worked 33 ½ years at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center as the payroll clerk prior to retirement. She then worked for the Knoxville School District for 9 years in their payroll department.
In her spare time, Betty enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers. Spending time with her grandchildren was one of Betty’s greatest joys in life. She will be remembered as a positive person who always had a smile for everyone.
Betty passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 78 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jonathan and brother-in-law, Mark Neil.
Those left to cherish Betty’s memory include her husband, Jim; son, Kevin (Heidi) Long; daughter, Robin (Chris) Delury; grandchildren: Reed Long, Harper Delury and Celia Delury; sisters: Judy Neil and Rosemary (Gary) Mason and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Betty Long, age 78 of Knoxville, will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Marion County Humane Society or to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
