Betty Jean Jerkins

Betty Jean Jerkins was born September 20, 1928 in Pella, Iowa the daughter of Arthur and Nelle (De Bruin) Cummings.
Betty graduated from Pella High School and then worked as a telephone operator in Pella. On April 21, 1948 Betty was united in marriage to William Joseph Jerkins in Knoxville. The couple always made Knoxville their home. Betty was a homemaker and mother. As her children were raised, Betty re-entered the workforce as a telephone operator at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital. She retired after 27 years of service.
Betty enjoyed traveling all over the United States and parts of Europe. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother and a good friend with a wonderful sense of humor.
Betty passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 88 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Kevin in infancy; husband, Bill and her siblings: Myrle Bishop and Arlie Cummings.
Those left to cherish Betty’s memory include her sons: Stephen of Iowa City, Greg (Candy) and Mark all of Knoxville; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
Graveside Funeral Services for Betty Jerkins, age 88 of Knoxville, will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Marion County Humane Society. Online condolences may be left at www.BertrandFuneralHomes.com .
