Berneice Loraine Collins

Berniece Loraine Collins was born July 14, 1930 in Sandyville, Iowa the daughter of Paul Guy and Mildred (Welshhons) Long.

She was raised in the Sandyville and Beech, Iowa area and graduated from Pleasantville High School. On January 11, 1947 Berniece was united in marriage to Joseph Irl Collins in Knoxville. The couple always made their home in Pleasantville. They owned and operated Collins Garage in Pleasantville, where Berniece took care of the books and was the parts runner. She and Joe also raised and sold Christmas trees at the shop.

Berniece and Joe enjoyed traveling, and had been on several cruises. They also enjoyed camping and fishing. Berniece was always available for a shopping trip or putting together a puzzle. She was also a member of the Red Hats. Family was the most important part of Berniece’s life and cherished her time with family and friends.

Berniece passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Windsor Ridge, in Indianola, at the age of 94 years.

In addition to her parents, Berniece was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; son, Wayne; daughter-in-law, Toni; brother, Jimmy Long; sister, Shirley Weiman.

Those left to cherish Berniece’s memory include her son, Terry Dale Collins; 4 grandchildren and their spouses; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister, Paula Leinen and many other family members and friends.

A graveside memorial service for Berniece Collins, age 94 of Pleasantville, will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasantville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of Webb Shadle Public Library or to the Pleasantville Youth Initiative.
