Bernadine Yvonne Vande Kamp was born September 29, 1931 in Tracy, Iowa the daughter of Alfred and Elva (Martin) Nicholson.
She was raised in the Tracy and Attica, Iowa areas and graduated from Attica High School. On May 21, 1950, Bernadine was united in marriage to Dean Vande Kamp at the Attica Methodist Church. To this union two daughters: Pamela and Ritaann were born. The couple lived in Attica for three years, before moving to the Pleasantville, Iowa area. For the last 51 years they have made their home on Long View Farm.
Bernadine was a dedicated partner on the farm. She worked professionally for a number of local businesses as an administrative assistant and bookkeeper before retiring from Steenhoek Implement.
Bernadine was a 4-H Leader, a master gardener for the Marion County Extension Office and member of the Garden Club. In her spare time, Bernadine and Dean enjoyed their horses and traveling around the United States and abroad. She and Dean shared a passion for their farm and being stewards of the land. Bernadine’s greatest joy was her family and she cherished her husband, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bernadine passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at her home at the age of 86 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to cherish Bernadine’s memory include her husband, Dean; daughters: Pamela Beach of Leawood, Kansas and Ritaann (Bryan) Carpenter of Clive; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
Funeral Services for Bernadine Vande Kamp, age 86 of Pleasantville, will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fairview Christian Church. Private burial will be in Graceland Cemetery – Knoxville, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Pella.
