Beatrice Agnes Lenger was born March 9, 1935 in Bauer, Iowa the daughter of Alban and Leona Hoch.
On May 25, 1957 Bea was united in marriage to Edward William Lenger at St Joseph’s Church in Bauer, Iowa. To this union nine children were born. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Bussey. In 2006, Bea moved to Knoxville.
Bea was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lovilia for 48 years and was active in the Altar & Rosary Society. After her move to Knoxville, Bea was an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. She served Mass often and at Funeral Masses. Bea volunteered as a Sacretin and assisted with monthly luncheons. Her faith was very deep and she was humbled to be able to travel to Rome.
Bea found her greatest joy in spending time with family and working in her flowers. She was an extraordinary cook and was determined to never allow anyone to leave her home hungry. She was known by many for her cinnamon rolls, apple pie and homemade bread. Bea’s favorite foods included fried catfish and homemade ice cream. She also enjoyed attending country music festivals and gospel music.
Bea passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at her home at the age of 82 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; son-in-law, Mark Blommers; sister, Mary Helen Hoch and brother, Willard Hoch.
Those left to cherish Bea’s memory include her children: Carl (Judy) Lenger of Knoxville, Kathy Blommers of Des Moines, Karen (Dennis) DeVries of Reasnor, Carol (Mike) Schrader of Knoxville, Rick Lenger of Mitchell, South Dakota, Jack (Karen) Lenger of Knoxville, Jill (Mark) Sager of Pleasantville, Jewel (Sean) O’Rear of North Liberty, Iowa and Randy (Johanna) Lenger of Chariton; 36 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; siblings: James Hoch of Dallas, Iowa, Clifford Hoch of Dallas, Iowa, Darlene Hoch of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jerald Hoch of Knoxville, Naomi Coppick of Altoona, Pat Slykhuis of Knoxville, Marge Simmerman of Indianola, Elaine Garity of Cedar Rapids, Rolland Hoch of Norwalk, Arnold Hoch of Moberly, Missouri and Diane King of Indianola and many other family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Beatrice Lenger, age 82 of Knoxville, will be held Monday, November 6, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lovilia, Iowa. There will be a Rosary Service at 5:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony Catholic Church and the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to H.C.I.
