Barbara Forbes Garland Head Whitlatch Brubaker was born July 14, 1918 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Everett Garland and Beulah Forbes Garland and went to be with her Lord on June 9th, 2014 in Prescott, Arizona. After the death of her parents she was adopted at the age of two by William and Ida May Head of Oskaloosa, Iowa. She attended Iowa State University for two years and in 1939 was married to Don Whitlatch, who later was a partner in Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville, Iowa. After Don's death in 1965 Barbara worked at the V.A. Hospital Library in Knoxville until she married J.C. Brubaker in 1968. She continued to work part-time at the library, and she and J.C. enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad. After spending many winters in Tucson, they retired to Prescott in 1998. Barbara was an active member of the Methodist Church, P.E.O. and Mentor Study Club in Knoxville; Catalina UMC in Tucson; and Prescott UMC.
She is survived by sons William E. Whitlatch of Prescott, Arizona and Michael D. Whitlatch and wife Shelley of Tucson, Arizona; grandchild Mark Whitlatch and wife Devin, grandchild Tyler Whitlatch and wife Ashlee, grandchild Suzannah Whitlatch and great grandchildren Banyan and Soleece McKinley- Whitlatch. She is also survived by step children James, Steve, Diane and Elaine and many step grandchildren whom she loved.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Susanne at birth and husbands Don Whitlatch in 1965 and James C. Brubaker in 2006.
Services were held June 11th, 2014 at the Prescott UMC.
She was a remarkable, courageous and beautiful lady who will be greatly missed. Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
