Ardith Richards, formerly of Martensdale, passed away on Thursday April 1, 2021 at Westview Care Center in Indianola, Iowa. Ardith was born in Massena, Iowa to Gertrude and Grover Guthrie on August 27, 1931. She graduated from Lovilia High School and married Jack Richards on July 10, 1954.

Ardith enjoyed the art of crocheting and her talent led to the creation of many doilies, dolls, afghans, and over 300 name doilies for framing. Her work was exceptional, and every stitch had to be perfect.
Ardith worked at various jobs including the Bevington Diner, TG&Y in Indianola, Ben Franklin in West Des Moines (where much of her work was on display) and finally at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. This final job of her career was her favorite where she worked in the cafeteria and physician’s lounge for 16 years, retiring at the age of 79.
Ardith became a mule rider late in life and could be seen riding on southern Iowa trails with Jack and their riding friends. She was a fan of Iowa and Iowa State basketball and football and rarely missed a game.

Ardith was especially proud of her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren; she deemed her life complete after meeting her third Great Grandchild, just a few weeks ago.

Ardith is survived by her daughter, Judy (Doug) McKain of Indianola; son, TJ (Jennifer) Richards of Breezy Point, MN; grandchildren: Katie McKain of Des Moines, Kelcie (Ben) Whaley of Waukee; Tara (Giuseppe) Biondilillo of Chicago, IL; Taylor Richards of Denver, CO; and Tanner Richards of Mesa, AZ; and great grandchildren Harrison and Kamryn Whaley and Luca Biondilillo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack and siblings Audrey Fowler and Alice Maas.
