Arden Rex Shoop was born on October 28th 1921 in Osage, Saskatchewan Canada to Clarence and Lena Shoop. He passed away on July 15th, 2022 at Valley View Village in Des Moines IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Carol, Charlene (Chick) & Roberta (Babe), wife Ruth and daughter Patricia Felderman.
He is survived by his son Alan (Phyllis) Shoop, son-in-law Jim Felderman, grandchildren Steve (Melinda) Larsen, Debbie Larsen, Nick (Dao Tran) Shoop, Scott (Debbie) Shoop, Joey (Eric) Fonkert and 8 great grandchildren.
Before Rex was born, his parents and family were long-term residents of the Hartford Iowa area. They moved to Canada a few years before Rex was born. When Rex was a few months old, his family moved from Canada to Lime Springs, Iowa. In 1927, they moved to Hartford Iowa. Rex was affectionately nicknamed “Bud” by his family. Later, they settled in Beech Iowa where they opened a hardware store, implement dealership in Beech and implement store in Pleasantville. In 1938 the family moved to Pleasantville where Rex graduated from Pleasantville High School in1939. The family relocated to California in 1940 where Rex helped his dad build their home. Both he and his dad worked as carpenters in the Los Angeles area.
Rex enlisted in the Navy in 1943. He and Ruth were married in San Diego, CA May 23rd, 1944. During his military service, Rex spent time in the South Pacific and Philippines as a torpedo man.
Ruth & Rex returned to Pleasantville after his discharge from the Navy in 1945. They welcomed daughter Patricia in 1944 and son Alan in 1951.
Rex started his own construction and cabinet building business after his discharge from the Navy. He built many family homes and fine furniture & cabinetry for people in the Pleasantville area during his career. He constructed the Mason Funeral home and also built the Pleasantville Christian Church parsonage. His work will be enjoyed by many for years to come.
He served as mayor of Pleasantville and also was on the city council. He and Ruth were active in their church and community during the years they lived in Pleasantville. Rex was a member of the Masonic lodge and Pleasantville Legion Post #108.
Ruth & Rex moved to Valley View Village in Des Moines in 2005. He continued to use his carpentry skills to make wooden cars for charity and family.
