Amos Orlando Spoon, Jr. was born December 28, 1955 in rural Jasper County, Iowa. He was raised by his mother Donna Jean Richardson Spoon and his grandparents, Harold and Mabel Richardson.
He attended Knoxville Schools, graduating in 1974. Amos was part of the wrestling team in high school. Following high school, Amos joined the United States Army Reserve and served in the hospital at Fort Des Moines. On August 12, 1989 he was united in marriage to Chyrl Lundgren Fox at the Melcher-Dallas Memorial Park. Through the Years, Amos worked numerous jobs at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center. He retired as A.O.D.
Amos was proud to serve as the mayor of Melcher-Dallas and was president of the Melcher-Dallas Food Pantry. He was previously a Sunday school teacher and member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Knoxville.
In his spare time, Amos enjoyed all types of music, reading and crossword puzzles. His greatest joy was family and he cherished family vacations, eating out with his family and friends, and of course watching Iowa Football with his family.
Amos passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family at the age of 64 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and siblings, Harold Spoon and Dana Spoon-Ewing.
Those left to cherish Amos’ memory include his wife, Chyrl; children: Jennifer Fox of Davenport, Iowa; Jessica Enfield (Mike) of Melcher, Iowa; Crystal McCain (Jeremy) of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Aaron Spoon of Arizona; grandchildren: Damien Fox; Gabe, Max, and Zeb Enfield; Tresure Spoon; Shadie Spoon; Rebel McCain; Tanya, Kristina and Jerimiah McCain and Makayla and Hayden Bolin; one great-grandchild and one on the way; sisters, Sharon Krouse of Winterset, Iowa and Betty Faulkner of Council Bluffs, Iowa and many other family members and friends.




A Celebration of Life for Amos Spoon, age 64 of Melcher, will be held Monday, December 28, 2020 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Knoxville at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Olive Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Melcher-Dallas Fire & Rescue Unit or to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
