Alice Faye Steffen was born September 11, 1954 in Otley, Iowa the daughter of Anthony and Marie (Kamerick) Langstraat.
She was raised on her family’s farm near Otley. As a young woman, Alice worked at Rolscreen and Boomsma Egg Processing. She lived most of her adult life in Monroe and operated the Southside Bar. She married Dan Steffen on May 9, 1998 and the couple lived in Knoxville and operated Dan’s Village Pump. Dan passed away in 2008 and Alice has continued to run the bar.
In her spare time, Alice enjoyed mushroom hunting, sightseeing and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. She believed in helping others throughout her life and in death her eyes were donated to the Iowa Lions Eyebank.
Alice passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 59 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Christopher; grandchild, Cody and her husband, Dan.
Those left to mourn her passing include her daughters: Heidi Lanore of Pierce City, Missouri, Heather Vigil of Knoxville and Holly Visser of Knoxville; siblings: Larry Langstraat and friend Pat of Monroe, Albert Wayne Langstraat (Jo) of Columbia, Tony Langstraat, Jr. (Ruth) of Pella, Diana Van Veen (David) of Monroe, Dennis Langstraat and friend Norma of Pella, Janice Rankin (Dean) of Knoxville and Janet DeMoss (Roger) of New Sharon; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; step-mother, Sylvia Langstraat and many other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery, Monroe, Iowa, at a later date.
